Happy New Year

Isa 52:7  How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.” (ESV)

How awesome and wonderful it is to meet people who exemplify this verse. These folk encourage us, remind us that our Gospel is GOOD NEWS. We have a Redeemer who came and lived among us in flesh so that He might come and live among us within our flesh. We have a Lord who loves so much we have trouble receiving it sometimes.

As we face 2010- a year that if looked at with human eyes only can bring fear and trepidation- let us remember that we are to bring good news. We are ‘peace carriers’ as we are in-dwelt by the Holy Spirit.  We bring Jesus into every place, situation and relationship we engage in. Oh- what power, what grace, what mercy, what love…..

May you and your family be abundantly blessed in Him. Lauren

Daily Bread

Give us today our daily bread.—Matthew 6:11

Jesus often reminded His followers not to worry. He told them not to be anxious about tomorrow’s needs or potential problems (Matt. 6:25). Rather, Jesus stressed a daily reliance on the Father, who provides for His children day by day.

As the Israelites wandered in the desert, they had no way to get food. Miraculously, God provided manna that appeared on the ground each morning. God’s provision was sufficient for one day at a time. Each day the children of Israel received fresh manna as a tangible reminder of God’s love for them. If they attempted to store it for the days to come, they found that it had spoiled by the next day. It was impossible to stockpile God’s provision, because God wanted them to trust in Him, not in their pantry. God’s grace was sufficient for each day.

God wants us to trust Him daily with our needs. This trust does not make us poor planners or careless with our futures, unprepared to face what may come. Rather, it keeps our relationship with the Lord in its proper perspective as He reminds us daily of our dependence upon Him. God is aware of what tomorrow will bring and how we should prepare for it. He knows the problems we will face, and He has already made provision for us to overcome them. He asks us to trust in Him daily. Our faith in Him today cannot substitute for our trust in Him tomorrow. If we walk with Him closely today, we will be in the center of His will tomorrow.

The Lord Hears

At that time those who feared the Lord spoke to one another. The Lord took notice and listened. So a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who feared Yahweh and had high regard for His name.—Malachi 3:16

God has designed His kingdom so that Christians with kindred spirits join together. It is exciting when you find another Christian who shares the same concerns and burdens that you do! Often, God will graciously bring another believer alongside you who will undergird you in the work and concerns God has placed on your heart.

God releases a powerful dimension of His presence to His children when they unite in heart and mind regarding His kingdom. The Bible says that when two or more Christians meet and reverently discuss matters concerning the Lord, God is pleased to listen to them and to respond to their concerns. When two or three believers agree in prayer, God chooses to respond to their unity by making His powerful presence known in their midst (Matt. 18:19–20). When two people walked together and discussed the confusing events of Christ’s crucifixion, Jesus joined them and helped them understand the events of their day (Luke 24:13–32).

If you are carrying concerns about your family or your church or your friends, ask God to bring like-minded believers around you to share the burden with you in conversation and in prayer. Don’t attempt to bear your load of cares on your own. You may pray about them, but you will miss the blessing of uniting together with a group of believers who join together to intercede for one another and to enjoy God’s presence. Everything God has woven into the fabric of His kingdom promotes interdependence, not individualism. As you face your concerns, deliberately seek out other believers with whom you can stand and share your load.

Whatcha lookin’ at?

When I was a young teen the title question was one that struck fear into my heart. I had to walk home from school and it wasn’t the best neighborhood to walk through. Often small groups of older teens would be on the sidewalk deliberately in my way- then when I looked up at them (I’m only 5′ tall) one would demand “Whatcha lookin’ at?”  There was no answer I could give that wouldn’t get me beaten up- so I ignored them and just went on. Thank the Lord that a group never decided to beat on me ‘just because.’

The question is a valid one- though I’m not looking for someone to pound on! I believe that much of our emotional and spiritual health is determined by what we are looking at.

Look at Lot, Abraham’s nephew, and his attraction to the city of Sodom.  When given the option of taking any part of the land, Lot chose the fertile plain and “pitched his tent even as far as Sodom.”  That city had a wicked and sinful reputation- yet we find that in just a little while later Lot was a resident.  And when the Lord decided to destroy the cities because of their sin, He sent in Angels or Messengers to save Lot and his family.  It took work to extricate Lot from this horrid city.

Psalm 115 says that those who make idols and trusts in them becomes like them.  You become that which you look at and trust in. So….Whatcha lookin’ at?

Decide what you want to be and look at the author of that.  If you wish to be like Jesus – 2 Corinthians 3:18 tells us “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”

Here’s the Lauren paraphrase:  As we who know the Lord Jesus Christ  gaze intently with purpose into the face of our beloved Savior- we then, by the power of the Holy Spirit, are being metamorphosized [distinctly and deliberately changed] into His image from awesome dimension of His person to awesome dimension of His person.

It’s not a matter of guilt or who has it right- it’s a matter of priority.  So….WHATCHA LOOKIN’ AT??

Blessings in Jesus – Lauren

ArchBishop Kollini in Colorado

Enjoy reading about our wonderful Primate – Fr. Bob

One of the founders of the Anglican Mission in the Americas is in Colorado this week to encourage people to turn to Christ. Rwandan Archbishop Emmanuel Kolini, who is staying with a Longmont family this week, will deliver a sermon Sunday morning in Broomfield. The service is open to the public. “He’s seen as our spiritual father in terms of the formation of this church,” said the Rev. Gerry Schnackenberg, senior pastor of Epiphany Anglican Fellowship, which has worship sites in Longmont, Broomfield, Lakewood and north Boulder. “He really had the vision and courage to go against the Episcopalian Church.”

The Anglican Mission in the Americas was founded in 2000 after theological differences caused orthodox members of the Episcopalian Church to break away. The new church operated under the spiritual guidance of Kolini until earlier this year when the Anglican Church in North America formed under the leadership of Archbishop Robert Duncan. Kolini and Duncan are now working together to lead the church, Schnackenberg said. During his stay in Colorado, Kolini will meet with local clergy and discuss ways to “bring people back to Jesus Christ.” He said he also wants to warn Americans about the dangers of turning from their faith and relying another to find happiness. “We are trying to remind people who they are from — creation to redemption,” he said. On Wednesday afternoon, Kolini spoke with a group of pastors at Calvary Church in Longmont who meet monthly to discuss issues facing their congregations.

The Rev. Tom Beaman of Grace Evangelical Free Church said Kolini’s message of accepting Christ transcends denominations. “I was absolutely humbled and excited by him,” he said. “To be in his presence and hear how he lived his faith in the midst of the most unimaginable, horrible things and to just hear the strength in his voice and see the light in his eyes was just incredible.”

Rwanda is undergoing a “re-evangelizing” as people heal from the wounds of the 1994 genocide, Kolini said. For too long, “tribal blood was stronger than the water of baptism,” he said. Now the church and government are working together to promote reconciliation. Nearly 120,000 people were imprisoned for murder after the genocide. Despite losing family and friends in the genocide, Kolini ministered to the prisoners, preaching repentance and contrition. The bulk of the prisoners have been released and have sought forgiveness from the families of the people they killed, he said.

Kolini also preached to the survivors, asking them to follow this example and “love the sinner and hate the sin.” But Kolini cautioned that “the devil doesn’t need a visa” and it’s all too easy for people to fall victim to hatred. Genocide takes many forms, and they all stem from rejecting the Gospel, he said. “There is no short cut,” he said. “You have to come back to Jesus.”

A Puritan Prayer

O Lover of thy people, Thou hast placed my whole being in the hands of Jesus, my Redeemer, Commander, Husband, Friend, and carest for me in him.  May I not know the voice of strangers, but go to him where he is, and follow where he leads. Nothing can hurt my new-born inner man, it cannot be smitten or die; nothing can mar the dominion of thy Spirit within me. I wish not so much to do as to be, and I long to be like Jesus. Lord, I belong to Thee. Amen.

The Fall Season Begins

This Sunday our parish begins another fall season with much expectation. We are, again, going to be at 2 services and have full Sunday School and Children’s Church running.

The leadership of St. Andrew’s is so very thankful to all those who dedicate themselves to the Lord’s ministry in our local body.  It takes many hands and hearts for an Anglican service to happen, as well as teachers, helpers and attendees for Sunday School.  To all who serve in our King’s service in your local church body- THANK YOU!!

The Epistle of James speaks of good works as the proof of faith- not that good works produces faith, but rather that faith will, by it’s nature, be revealed in the good works of the brethren.

(James 2:14-17) What does it profit, by brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. (NKJV)

You who are sharing a ride to church or a Dr’s office, you who give food and clothes to those in need, you who share your faith by word and deed- you are most blessed! For you are actively sharing Jesus with others.

May each of us be full of faith and have lives full of good works for His Kingdom.  Be blessed tomorrow on our Lord’s day. In Jesus – Lauren

BBQ follow-up

We had a great time at our Bible & BBQ fellowship this afternoon. More steak, potatoes & corn on the cob than we could eat!  And…more importantly, a good time in His Word together.  Thanks folks, for coming and sharing together.

As soon as I figure out how, I will be dropping photos in to improve the posts.

Have a great Sunday!  In Jesus, Lauren

Bible & BBQ

This Saturday those in our congregation who have been studying the book of James will be gathering at a local park to celebrate together.  What fun it is to study the Word together as a fellowship- what sweet connectedness (I know it’s not really a word) there is when we ‘feed’ on the Word together.

James is a wonderful book full of rich meat to sink our teeth into.  I will lead a short study at the BBQ on a section of the book the Lord leads me in.

Have you spent time in His Word today?  Isn’t it interesting that we rarely go a day without eating in the flesh but we may go several days (or longer) without eating in Spirit?  Need a place to start?  Need a reading guide?  Send me a comment or an email (sta.pray@yahoo.com) and I would love to chat.

May you be deeply blessed by our wonderful God in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Lauren

Prayer

Let us pray for those of us who are strong in our faith to stay strong and for those who are weak to become strong.

Our Father we pray to you,
Give us a mind through which Christ Thinks,
A heart through which Christ Loves,
A Voice through which Christ speaks,
A Hand through which Christ Heals,
and A body through which Christ acts.
In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
Amen.
